Survivors Unite: Dear 16-Year-Old Me

In response to the video, we asked our community of skin cancer survivors to share what advice they would give their 16-year-old selves. Here's what they said:

"Dear 16-Year-Old Me: Be kind to your skin. Chasing after a tan is going to cause you a lot of trouble later in life. Wear your sunscreen and embrace the coloring God gave you."

-Liz T.

"Dear 16-Year-Old Me: Be aware of how important it is to protect your skin while you’re still young. Get skin check ups regularly, and don’t put it off like I did. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it is so important to take the best care of it. Luckily, you have plenty of options for stylish protective clothing, so don’t worry, you can still enjoy all your favorite outdoor activities."

-Jessica R.

"Dear 16-Year-Old Me: You will find true beauty in the balance of all things, so will have no need of aging with regret if balance is what you choose today.”

-Kim B.

"Dear 16-Year-Old Me: Nurture and protect your skin, wear 30+ SPF, keep anything that says “oil” in the kitchen, and steer clear of tanning beds. Remember that your natural skin is beautiful the way it is!"

-Becky A.
