Up first is Morgan Weinstock, the VP of Sales and Marketing at Jackson Morgan Southern Cream, a Tennessee whiskey cream company. Read on to learn more, and be sure to try out her recipe below!
What led you to this career?
I graduated from College of Charleston with a business degree with a concentration in hospitality and marketing. During the beginning of my career, I worked for a luxury wedding planning company, then moved on to fundraising and events for non-profits and political campaigns. When the opportunity arose for me to work for my family with Jackson Morgan Southern Cream, I was ready to tackle the challenge. My great grandfather made whiskey during the 1920s, and my dad began his career with Anheuser-Busch. The spirits industry has always been part of my family's heritage.
What's a normal day at the office look like?
Every day is different. Some days are pretty photoshoots for The Sip blog, which might include decorating a Christmas tree in August. Other days may include recipe testing, calling on bar or restaurant accounts, planning marketing efforts, and pitching brands. I spend a portion of my time on the computer answering emails, working with influencers, SEO, writing blog posts, and social media.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
It is funny now, but I wanted to be a doctor.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
Jackson Morgan Southern Cream in banana pudding won double gold and best in show at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Conference, which is a huge liquor conference with thousands of brands. It was such a great moment for our team where we felt like years of hard work were finally paying off.
What’s the best career advice you were ever given?
Do things differently than everyone else and be uniquely you! Jackson Morgan's marketing efforts are different from other liquor brands. When I started on our marketing plan, I desired to not just create a delicious whiskey cream, but also a playful and fun lifestyle through our blog, The Sip. I love to entertain, bake, and host. These qualities are showcased on our blog and are unique to our brand.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Basecamp, this project management software keeps our team on track. It allows us to stay up to date on each team member's schedule and to-do lists.
What motivates you?
My family and our legacy. I want to do well for my family's legacy present and future. Crafting a brand that brings the playfulness back into the liquor business has been incredibly rewarding.
How do you define success?
Success for Jackson Morgan is creating a relevant liquor brand that brings people together, such as at the dinner table for after-dinner cocktails or a gift during the holidays ultimately creating community. We leverage The Sip blog as a tool to help our customers learn new cocktail recipes, hosting tips, or ideas for gifting Jackson Morgan. I also define success as the ability to enjoy life outside of work, including date night with my husband and entertaining friends in our home.
What does living the Cabana Life mean to you?
As a natural redhead, I take sun protection seriously. Being able to enjoy outdoor entertaining and activities without compromising my style is essential. I was always the gal embarrassed to be swimming in a t-shirt. I am thankful for Cabana Life. I can now wear a cute rash guard or dress and not worry about sunburns or the potential skin cancer risk.
Is there anything else you would like us to include?
I would love to share a festive cocktail for fall called Tipsy Apple.
Ingredients: Jackson Morgan Southern Cream in salted caramel, apple whiskey, apple slices, and caramel sauce.
In a cocktail shaker, mix 2 parts Jackson Morgan Southern Cream in salted caramel with 1 part apple whiskey. Shake well. Strain over fresh ice in glasses. Garnish with an apple slice drizzled with caramel sauce. Cheers!
